Atmospheric Moist Convection — Parcel Theory & CAPE
CAPE: — J/kg | CIN: — J/kg | LFC: — m
Parcel theory: lift a surface air parcel dry-adiabatically (DALR = 9.8 K/km) until it cools to its dew point (LCL). Above the LCL, moist-adiabatic ascent (MALR ≈ 5–7 K/km) as latent heat is released. CAPE (area where parcel is warmer than environment) drives deep convection and thunderstorms. CIN is the inhibition energy below the LFC.
